Recording Day 1
Last night I told my roommate that if I didn’t start my recording project tomorrow (today) that she was to bludgeon me with her tennis racket. So with that in mind, I sat down around 10am this morning and started firing up the gear. Starting with my antique Alesis SR-16 drum module. I promised myself that at the very least I could start getting drum sounds. After about 2 hours I had one kit built to my liking = progress.
Unfortunately, when I went to start test-tracking to review the audio, my current laptop + USB interface was working intermittently. I could record one track and then would need to restart Cubase before I laid another track. Additionally, the monitor/playback routing was not working either. As I watched the sun slowly going down this evening after hours of troubleshooting, I refrained from tossing the computer out the window and decided to unpack my trusty desktop I have recorded with for over 6 years. One word, dead. Not even sort-of dead, but completely-not-even-turning-on-totally-dead. So that’s that for today, major bummer.
It wasn’t a completely unproductive session since I at least have some drum sounds to start working with. The great news is that J has generously donated an unused desktop to the good cause.
